Frequently asked questions

I lost my recovery phrase, or uninstalled the app. Can you recover my account?

No — CalixGo is self-custody by design. Your recovery phrase and keys exist only on your device, and we have no copy of them. Losing your recovery phrase without a Vault backup means your identity, contacts, and local message history cannot be recovered. Write your recovery phrase down and store it somewhere safe when you first set up the app.

How do I back up my Vault?

Go to Settings → Backup, set a password, and export your .clx file. It's encrypted with post-quantum cryptography (Kyber-768 + ChaCha20-Poly1305) and never contains your private key. To restore on a new device, go to Settings → Restore, pick the file, and enter the password.

I forgot my Vault backup password. Can you reset it?

No one can recover it — the password only exists in your head, and the backup file is encrypted with it. Without it, that specific backup cannot be decrypted. This is separate from your recovery phrase, which restores your identity even without a Vault backup.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Delete Account, type DELETE to confirm, and it's gone — no need to email anyone. This deletes both your server record (display name, avatar, contacts, room memberships, feed posts) and everything on this device (identity, chat history, Vault) in one step. It's permanent, so back up your Vault first if you want to keep it. Prefer not to use the in-app flow? Email letanphuoc@gmail.com with your address (Settings → Profile) and we'll delete the server record only — your device is unaffected either way.

Are my calls recorded?

No. Calls are relayed live through our call-routing server for connectivity only — audio and video are never recorded or stored.

Is the Social feed private, like chat?

No — this is worth repeating. Unlike 1:1 and group chat, the Social feed is not end-to-end encrypted. Treat anything you post there as shared content, not a private message. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Why does the app ask for camera, microphone, or location access?

Only for the feature you're using at that moment — camera/microphone for calls and OCR, location only when you explicitly choose to share it in a chat. See the full breakdown in the Privacy Policy.

How does sign-in work without a password?

Your identity is a key pair generated on your device. Signing in means signing a message with that key — there's no password to set, forget, or have leaked in a breach.
